Air Europa Celebrates 2nd UK Anniversary

Air Europa Celebrates 2nd UK Anniversary Spanish carrier Air Europa celebrates the second year of its cheap flights to Madrid from London's Gatwick Airport this week.

The cheap fares airline said that ever since the route began operating in April 2009, more than 136,555 passengers have taken advantage of the twice-weekly service to Spain's capital. 1,325 cheap flights have flown over the last 24 months.

Some passengers have simply flown direct to Madrid, while others have opted to use it as a connection to Air Europa's cheap flights to the USA, the Caribbean and South America. In total, the airline serves 11 destinations in these regions.

Air Europa UK general manager Colin Stewart said that there was every chance of increased demand for its Madrid service later in the year, when the carrier begins offering cheap flights to Mexico City.

He observed: "Over the last two years Latin American destinations have become increasingly popular amongst British travellers, who are getting more adventurous with their tastes. This trend has allowed Air Europa to grow its Latin American routes and become well known for being an affordable, reliable and comfortable way to travel."

According to the airline, the most popular Air Europa routes among Britons are its cheap flights to Buenos Aires, the Argentinian capital, plus its cheap flights to Cuba's first city Havana. Flights to Miami and Peru are also growing in popularity among UK travellers, Mr Stewart said.

Madrid itself is a growing attraction though, thanks to its wealth of cultural attractions and lively nightlife.

Only last week, the Daily Mail newspaper branded the Prado Museum "essential" viewing for visitors, along with the Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofia galleries. Tourists on Madrid holidays have the option to purchase a single ticket granting entry to all three sites.
