BA Boosts Cheap Flights to Latin America in 2011
Flag carrier British Airways' declared its "commitment to Latin America" this week with the announcement of more routes and more frequent cheap flights to Brazil, Costa Rica and Panama.
BA announced that it was doubling the frequency of its cheap flights to Rio de Janeiro from London's Heathrow Airport from three to six flights a week. From now on the flights will leave Heathrow every day except Monday, leaving the hub at 12.15pm and arriving in Rio at 9.55pm local time. They will use a B777 aircraft with economy, premier economy and business class cabins, with their fully flat beds.
Commenting on the enhanced service, BA head of network planning Neil Cottrell said: "We are experiencing a real increase in demand for Rio and by doubling the number of frequencies, we are able to offer our customers more choice and greater availability. Brazil is also experiencing strong economic growth and this capacity increase is a great opportunity for British Airways to be part of that growth."
BA has been stepping up the number of cheap flights to Latin America it has to offer passengers recently thanks to its merger with Spanish flag carrier Iberia. Earlier in the month, the two carriers revealed a new codesharing agreement, effective immediately.
British Airways passengers can now take Iberia's cheap flights to Costa Rica's San Jose Airport and Panama City from Madrid, while Iberia customers are able to take advantage of its partner's cheap flights to the Middle East, with the Spanish carrier's code added to BA services to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait and Muscat. From the 15th of this month, Iberia's cheap flights to Havana have begun carrying the BA code.
