BA Reveals Top Last-Minute Summer Destinations
Flag carrier British Airways said today that this month has seen Britons booking cheap flights to the USA, the Caribbean and city break destinations across Europe as part of a last-minute summer getaway.
BA spokeswoman Claire Bentley said that the airline has experienced heavy demand for late bookings thanks to the "washout" that has characterised the British summertime. The spokeswoman said that the strongest demand for last-minute USA holidays is with cheap flights to New York, Orlando and Las Vegas, while Caribbean destinations that are proving popular include Barbados and St Lucia.
For travellers seeking cheap flights to Europe's city hot spots, routes to Barcelona and Rome are experiencing strong demand, as well as the beautiful and romantic city break destination of Venice. To round off the list, Ms Bentley added that other destinations for last-minute cheap flights have included Jersey and Mauritius.
She went on to say that "thanks to a range of new leisure destinations, including Marrakech, and even more flights to the always popular Caribbean, customers are sure to find that British Airways can help them get away for their perfect summer holiday."
BA also announced its biggest pilot recruitment drive for over a decade today, with plans to recruit over 800 new pilots over the next five years.
The initiative will focus on three main areas – the "Future Pilot Programme," which will help people to train to become airline pilots from scratch, recruitment from other airlines and a partnership programme with the armed forces to help military pilots retrain for the commercial aviation sector.
