Bmibaby Announces New Midlands Routes
Cheap flights carrier bmibaby announced this week that it is planning seven new routes next summer which will be perfect for travellers in the Midlands planning Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece holidays.
The airline, the no-frills subsidiary of bmi, will begin operating cheap flights to Corfu, Naples, Murcia and Gibraltar from East Midlands Airport. There will also be cheap flights to Barcelona, Lisbon and Rome available from from Birmingham Airport in summer 2012.
Anyone booking their 2012 holidays early this year can also reserve seats on year-round cheap flights to Prague and Cologne, from Birmingham and East Midlands respectively, the airline said, rather than booking them for the summer season only, as has previously been the case.
Bmibaby managing director Julian Carr described the new routes this week as "fantastic news for the Midlands," adding: "We recently announced that we will be basing two additional aircraft in the Midlands from the end of our summer 2011 flying programme and will now operate a total of 45 routes from the Midlands. We are committed to further growth in this region."
For holidaymakers who are travelling from the Midlands this summer, bmibaby is already offering cheap flights to Barcelona, Venice, Lisbon and other great Europe holiday destinations.
Birmingham Airport air services development director Martyn Lloyd told the Birmingham Mail: "This expansion gives passengers in the Midlands an even greater choice of destinations from Birmingham."
The additional focus on the Midlands follows bmibaby's decision to pull out of Manchester and Cardiff airports at the end of this summer, a move which Mr Carr described as a plan to "focus on airports where the airline already has a strong market presence."
