Bond Hotel from Octopussy Most Famous Movie Hotel

Bond Hotel from Octopussy Most Famous Movie Hotel Although they would never make a list of the world’s cheapest hotels, there are some hostelries around the world that will be instantly recognisable to many travellers, thanks to their starring roles in some classic Hollywood movies.

The Hotels.com website recently compiled its list of the top ten famous movie hotels – noting that they have consistently been a favourite location for writers and directors. The hotels were praised for their timeless qualities and versatility, which makes them the perfect setting for almost any kind of story.

The number one spot went to an iconic hotel which will be instantly familiar to fans of 007 – the Taj Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur. The romantic 18th century hotel was the main location for Bond’s 1983 outing Octopussy, and strongly resembles the Taj Mahal after which it was named.

At number two was London’s Lanesborough hotel, which was featured in the Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman vehicle Eyes Wide Shut. The Knightsbridge building is by no means one of the capital’s cheap hotels, however – its luxurious Royal Suite comes with round-the-clock butler services and a chauffeur-driven Bentley.

Many Florida holidays have ended up at the Fontainebleau on Miami Beach, which comes in at number three and has played host to many films, such as Goldfinger, Scarface and The Bodyguard. At number four in the list was the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles which helped bring Rocky 3, Ghostbusters, Independence Day and Wedding Crashers to life.

The luxury Hotel Del Coronado was the setting for the Marilyn Monroe classic Some Like It Hot which secured the number five spot.

The next three hotels on the list were, in order, the Historic Lake Lure Inn – the setting for Dirty Dancing; the InterContinental Le Grand, which saw the filming of Frantic, with Harrison Ford and Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York, where Serendipity, Cinderella Man and Murder at 1600 were all shot.

Berlin’s Westin Grand, the setting for The Bourne Supremacy; and London’s famous hotel The Savoy, the location of Notting Hill, The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Entrapment completed the list.
