Brazil Holidays Set to Double for World Cup 2014
The number of British travellers taking cheap flights to Brazil is set to double in a couple of years time when the South American country hosts the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
That's the claim that was made this week by the head of the association charged with promoting Brazil holidays, Embratur. The president of the tourist authority, Flavio Dino, said that he believed Brazil was in a good position to double the number of UK tourists arriving in 2014 and revealed plans for new initiatives to be unveiled at this year's World Travel Market (WTM).
Speaking to travel website TTG following the World Cup preliminary draw in Rio de Janeiro this week, Mr Dino said that last year almost 170,000 Britons took cheap flights to Brazil, but clearly this number would soar due to the worldwide football tournament.
"Agents should be aware that we have a very comprehensive and expanding network of airports so it is relatively easy to combine two or three different destinations within a two-week break," he pointed out.
Mr Dino went on to say that there are ever more travel options for people planning Brazil holidays, with the number of direct flights increasing all the time. He noted that BA plans to double the number of cheap flights to Rio de Janeiro from London Heathrow in October, with services operating six times a week.
"They should also be aware there are always hotels being built and new destinations being developed," he said. "Earlier this month, Embratur announced a new classification model for all of Brazil's 28,000 hotels in order for tourists to have transparent information on the quality and standards of the country’s accommodation."
