Bristol Airport Posts Positive 2010 Growth Figures

Bristol Airport Posts Positive 2010 Growth Figures Bristol Airport bosses revealed today that it was one of UK aviation's success stories in 2010, with more people taking cheap flights to Europe and beyond from the hub compared to the previous year.

The airport reported that it had enjoyed a 1.8 per cent increase in the number of passengers, despite the many problems afflicting the sector last year. These included freezing weather, air traffic control strikes overseas and the unprecedented eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull.

Bristol Airport was apparently one of just two of the UK's ten major airports to enjoy passenger growth over the past 12 months, with some 5.7 million passengers taking or arriving on cheap flights. Scheduled international services had the best year, with a 3.7 per cent increase in passenger traffic compared to 2009. All of this took place despite a 1.5 per cent fall in the volume of aircraft movement year-on-year.

The airport's aviation director Shaun Browne commented: "These results demonstrate the continued demand for international air travel to and from the South West. 2010 was a challenging year for aviation, but the region's leading airport has retained a strong route network which serves hundreds of destinations across the world direct or via major hubs such as Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris Charles de Gaulle."

As well as its cheap flights to Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels, passengers can catch flights to a wide variety of destinations from Bristol. Cheap flights to Europe include services to Seville, while there are also cheap flights to Turkey, Egypt and Morocco – and even cheap flights to Miami and Mexico.

KLM recently announced plans to start a fourth daily service to Amsterdam in March, while Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus will begin operating three flights a day to Dublin.
