Bristol Airport to Boost European Routes by 2012
Bristol Airport revealed today that it hopes to launch a series of new cheap flights to Europe by the middle of next year.
Airport head of communications James Gore said that by 2012, the growing regional airport expects to be able to offer holidaymakers cheap flights to Germany, Scandinavia and eastern Europe by 2012. The prospect of additional cheap flights from Bristol was first raised when aviation director Shaun Browne revealed the positive progress that he believed had been made at Routes Europe in Sardinia – a three-day conference which saw aviation and airport chiefs gather to discuss closer co-operation.
Mr Browne said that Bristol Airport made a strong business case for services to and from the south west of England, which was seen to be well received by other delegates.
"The diverse range of businesses based in the region, combined with a wealth of tourist attractions, makes a compelling case for a network development managers assessing new route opportunities," he added.
"But we did not only get strong signals from airlines. It is also clear that Bristol is fast becoming a destination which other airports want to see on their departure boards. As a result, early indications for 2012 are very encouraging and we anticipate being in a position to make several significant announcements over the coming months."
When questioned about specifics, Mr Gore said that although Bristol would not able to confirm any specific new routes at this time, he would reveal that cheap flights to Germany, eastern Europe and Scandinavia were in the pipeline.
