Cape Town Woos Stylish Holidaymakers with Fashion Week

Cape Town Woos Stylish Holidaymakers with Fashion Week Organisers behind Cape Town's looming Fashion Week are hoping to make style and couture a focus for people considering visiting the city for their South Africa holidays.

The region's tourism agency said that many well-known names and faces in the fashion world have been invited to show off their spring/summer collections at different locations in the city by African Fashion International. The Fashion Week takes place next month, between July 13 and July 16, and Cape Town Fashion Council chief executive Bryan Ramkilawan said that as well as big-name international designers, a wealth of local talent will also be showcased.

Mr Ramkilawan said that "Cape Town designers have an intellectual approach to fashion and are progressive and innovative... We have tremendously creative people, they just need a platform."

Cape Town Tourism added that this year's show intends to focus on the young talent across the fashion industry, with activities such as a graduate design competition and interactive workshops where visitors can work with young designers.

The event is hoping to cash in on the rising status of South Africa holidays in the wake of the massive publicity afforded by the 2010 World Cup. Recent figures published by Cape Town Tourism have revealed that there was a 9.3 per cent increase in the number of people taking cheap flights to South Africa in January alone, compared to the same month a year ago.

There are many airlines offering cheap flights to South Africa from the UK, with services available from most major UK airports. Check online for the cheapest fares.
