Cheap Flights to Estonia Lead to Holiday Boom

Cheap Flights to Estonia Lead to Holiday Boom Estonia holidays were virtually unknown just a decade or so ago, but the low prices and ever-increasing number of cheap flights to the eastern European country has made it a top spot for UK travellers, according to its national tourist agency.

The tourist board's director Tarmo Mutso said that figures have revealed a sharp rise in the number of people taking cheap flights to Estonia from the UK and Ireland in the first half of this year. The figures show that over 30,300 people from the two nations took advantage of cheap flights to Tallinn, the Estonian capital, staying in the cities cheap hotels for a total of almost 36,000 nights.

Mr Mutso said that these figures show an incredible 90 per cent increase in the number of UK and Irish visitor numbers compared to the first six months of 2010 – plus a 96 per cent increase in the number of people staying for one night or more.

He also confirmed that the rise in availability of cheap flights to Tallinn was largely responsible for this spectacular success story, noting that Estonian Air flies four times a week to the capital from London Gatwick Airport during the summer months. For passengers in the north-west of England, cheap fares carrier easyJet also recently began flying to Tallinn from Liverpool.

"Estonia and the capital city Tallinn appeal greatly to British and Irish guests for our great variety of historical and cultural activities, the unspoilt countryside, national parks, attractive towns and villages, beautiful beaches and spa resorts," Mr Mutso declared.

He also pointed out that Estonia holidays have even more to offer this year, as Tallinn's status as a European Capital of Culture means that over 7,000 special exhibitions and events are taking place throughout 2011.
