Cheap Flights to Spain are Number One at Gatwick
Figures revealed by London Gatwick Airport have revealed that Spain holidays are the most popular summertime options for travellers taking cheap flights from the bustling hub.
Cheap flights to Spain took many of the top spots in Gatwick's top ten summer destinations, with the number one and two spots going to Malaga – the heart of the Costa del Sol – and the largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca. Officials said that some 130,000 Britons will be taking cheap flights to Malaga from Gatwick this summer.
The top ten also saw cheap flights to Alicante, Madrid and Ibiza making an appearance, in sixth, seventh and ninth place respectively. After Spain, Portugal holidays are the next most popular, with cheap flights to Faro proving to be the third most frequent bookings, followed by Dalaman in Turkey in fourth place and Dublin at number five.
Cheap flights to Orlando in Florida came in at eighth place and surprisingly, Jersey flights scooped the number ten spot.
In total some 3.3 million passengers will be coming to Gatwick this summer, and officials offered a few tips on making the experience as stress-free as possible. These included ensuring that they are familiar with their carrier's baggage weight and size limits to avoid penalty charges and preparing for the security queue by removing sharp items from hand luggage and avoiding bringing any liquids, creams or gels in containers exceeding 100ml.
In order to make such preparations even easier, Gatwick is soon to be opening a "dedicated preparation area" ahead of the security line aimed at speeding up the process. The area will feature free re-sealable plastic bags for liquids and benches for travellers that need to rearrange their hand luggage.
