Christmas Bus Tours to Brooklyn Make a Come-Back
If you're thinking of taking one of the many cheap flights to New York this December, you might wish to hop on a special bus tour showcasing the Christmas delights of the borough of Brooklyn.
A Slice of Brooklyn is the name of a local bus tour operator more usually known for its pizza-themed excursions around Brooklyn's mouth-watering pizza joints, which is bringing back its seasonal "Christmas lights and cannoli" tour for the fifth year running.
As well as the cannoli of the title – a traditional Sicilian dessert – guests will be treated to a delicious Brooklyn cappuccino at one of the borough's many Italian pastry shops during the three-and-a-half-hour tour.
Other attractions will include a stop-off in the Italian-American district of Dyker Heights, which is famed for its festive fair. Over 100,000 people come from across the New York area every year to be part of the event and to marvel at the spectacular Christmas lights and decorations, animatronic figures, nativity scenes and giant wooden soldiers.
A Slice of Brooklyn – and its Christmas spin-off – is the creation of lifelong Brooklyn resident Tony Muia, who has been operating the tours since 2006, and who said that he wanted people on their New York holidays to have a simple way to get on a bus in Manhattan and swiftly find themselves in Brooklyn and sampling all of its Yuletide delights from the perspective of the locals.
He said that "when I started doing the Christmas tour five years ago, nobody was bothering to go pick people up in Manhattan and bring them to Brooklyn. So I took it upon myself to be its official ambassador for the holidays."
