Cyprus Holidays Offer the Fun of Summer Festivals
Cyprus holidays are a constant favourite among Britons seeking a quiet getaway for their summer break, thanks to the island's warm climate, abundance of sunshine and beautiful beaches. There are also a healthy number of cheap flights to Cyprus from airports across the UK, making it easy and inexpensive to reach.
This week the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) also pointed out the large number of "sizzling hot" festivals and other summer events due to take place on the island over the next few months.
At the end of this month, Paphos hosts the Paradise Jazz Festival, featuring some of Europe's finest jazz talent. The festival takes place between 29 July and 6 August.
Fans of a fine vintage will enjoy the Limassol Wine Festival, which takes place over a 12 day period from late August to the beginning of September. The festival is held at Limassol's Municipal Gardens, where visitors will be able to attend free wine tastings – sampling regional specialities such as Commandaria and Muscat, while enjoying delicious local food and being entertained by Cypriot music and dancing.
The start of September also sees the three-day Aphrodite Festival in Paphos, taking place at night in the open air near the old harbour. The festival is being held between 2 and 4 September, and this year focuses on Jacques Offenbach's operetta The Tales of Hoffmann. This festival is a charming opportunity for culture vultures to enjoy the best in open air opera on their Cyprus holidays.
Between September and October, the Cypriot all-inclusive arts and culture festival Kypria takes place, offering visitors a wide variety of music, dance, performance art and theatre – previous years have seen such artistes as Ute Lemper, the Martha Graham Dance Company and Tap Dogs coming to Cyprus for the festival.
