Deloitte Reveals Best Hotel Bargains for City Breaks
International consultancy Deloitte has revealed that the hotel sector is recovering from the global economic downturn due to increased demand throughout Europe. A report by the firm revealed that demand increased by 3.3 per cent between October 2009 and January this year.
Although Deloitte did not say that the sector would bounce back “strongly” in 2010, it generally expected measures to improve – although it admitted that individual cities could suffer reverses.
This may be to the advantage of canny holidaymakers, however, as many cities will be seeking to maximise trade with great deals on cheap hotels and other forms of accommodation.
The Deloitte report even identified two cities where there are more cheap hotels this year thanks to uneven recovery throughout the European tourist sector. Luckily for holidaymakers, the cities are two of the most popular destinations among UK citizens for short breaks – Barcelona and Prague.
The consultants found that the average price of a hotel room in Barcelona had plunged from €105 per night in January 2009 to €91 at the same time this year. By the same token, in Prague, cheap hotels were becoming more prevalent, with the average price dropping from around £75 a night in January 2009 to £64 a year later. Other locations where the visitor has a higher chance of cheap hotels included Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Madrid, Moscow and Rome.
When combined with the cheap flights to Europe that can be found on the internet, city breaks in these locations can really add up to great bargains. Spain holidays can represent excellent value for instance, thanks to the relatively low cost of food and drink coupled with low hotel rates in cities such as the vibrant Barcelona.
