Eastern Europe is Top for Cheap Hotels in 2011
A new survey published only this week has revealed that the best destination for cheap hotels is eastern Europe.
Hotel.com examined the average prices of rooms in popular holiday destinations across the world. The website concluded that, although prices in general were on the increase as the tourism sector slowly recovers from the recession, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Estonia holidays were still great places to find cheap hotels.
In Tallinn, the Estonian capital, the average cost of a room was £54 a night, whereas in Budapest it was just £65. Cheap hotels cost around £67 a night in Prague and £70 in Warsaw. However, on Russia holidays there was less choice of cheap accommodation, with the average cost of a hotel some £132 a night.
Outside Europe good value hotels could be found on Thailand and Florida holidays. Room rates in Bangkok were around £58 a night and tourists taking cheap flights to Orlando could expect to pay £63 a night on average.
Middle East holidays proved to be pricier once accommodation was taken into consideration, said Hotels.com global communications director Alison Couper, with the most expensive average hotel room rates standing at £185 a night, found in the Oman capital Muscat. Rates were also pretty high in Doha, with visitors paying around £169 a night for an hotel room.
"UK travellers saw significant price rises in 2010 in many of their favourite destinations," Ms Couper noted. "This could in part be explained by the drop in the value of sterling but it was also due to hoteliers starting to raise rates and curbing the discounting culture that was prevalent in 2009."
