EasyJet Launching Cheap Flights to Turkey From Edinburgh
Good news for Scottish travellers looking for cheap flights to their Turkey holdiays next summer – budget airline easyJet has stepped into the gap left by the collapse of Holidays4u at Edinburgh Airport.
From April, the carrier will offer cheap flights to Dalaman from Edinburgh, plus a new route offering cheap flights to Naples. This is in addition to new services planned for later in the year – with easyJet due to launch cheap flights to Tenerife and Grenoble from the hub. Overall, easyJet will be offering 45 routes from its Scottish bases by summer 2012 and has marked the milestone by basing a fifth aircraft at Edinburgh, an A320 Airbus which is the 200th in the airline's fleet.
EasyJet Scottish commercial manager Hugh Aitken made the announcement as the first of the carrier's cheap flights to Athens left Edinburgh today.
"2011 has been an incredible year for easyJet in Scotland, the highlight of which is today’s launch of Scotland’s only direct route to Athens, connecting Edinburgh – the Athens of the North – to the Greek capital," Mr Aitken said.
"Naples will be yet another Scottish first for easyJet and is set to become a popular inbound and outbound destination. We are also pleased to be able to provide much needed capacity on the popular Edinburgh to Dalaman route."
He added: "This announcement brings the number of new routes which we launched from Scotland in the last 12 months to eight, alongside increased capacity on our popular business links between Glasgow and London."
Over the past 12 months, easyJet has begun operating a series of new Scottish routes, such as cheap flights to Paphos and Basel from Edinburgh and cheap flights to Amsterdam and Jersey from Glasgow.
