EasyJet Reveals Routes from Southend Airport
Cheap flights carrier easyJet confirmed its initial list of destinations this week for its latest base at London Southend Airport.
Yesterday's announcement spells good news for Britons in the south east seeking the cheapest flights to their Spain holidays, as most of the routes will involve popular sunshine and city break destinations in mainland Spain and its Balearic Islands.
Starting next April, UK holidaymakers travelling from Southend Airport will be able to take cheap flights to Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Mallorca and Ibiza with easyJet. There will also be cheap flights to Amsterdam, Belfast and Faro – bringing the total number of weekly flights from the Essex hub to 70.
Southend Airport has recently been blessed with a brand new railway station which provides a fast transport link to the east London stations of Liverpool Street and Stratford, easyJet customer and revenue director Catherine Lynn pointed out.
"This is an exciting time to be launching our routes from our newest UK base. The airport is in a fantastic location just outside London with a fast rail link into the city," she added. "Through offering easy and affordable travel, we expect the new routes to appeal to customers in Essex and London looking for a convenient new departure point for many top European destinations."
The announcement of the new routes was also hailed by Southend Airport managing director Alastair Welch, who said that the presence of the popular budget airline "really brings to life" the hub's recent developments.
"With up to eight train services an hour to Stratford and to London Liverpool Street, this is an exciting prospect for both people wanting to visit London and those travelling to the region on holiday or business next year," he added.
