Egypt Holidays to Lead Country Revival
World Travel Awards (WTA) declared this week that Egypt holidays will be a major part of the country's new democracy and economic recovery.
It announced that this year's African and Indian awards ceremony – described as the "Oscars of the travel industry" – will be held in the popular Egypt holidays resort of Sharm El Sheikh on 16 September. It will be the first of the organisation's travel awards ceremonies to be held in Egypt.
WTA pointed out that tourism is still a crucial part of Egypt's economic well-being, with one in every eight jobs reliant on the sector and 12 per cent of the country's GDP. The organisation's president Graham Cooke, said that Egypt had more than enough history, culture and other attractions for holidaymakers to enable it to "bounce back from adversity".
He added: "Egypt is a remarkably resilient destination, boasting an incredible array of attractions from the Pyramids of Giza and the temples of Luxor to the spectacular diving of the Red Sea and the beaches of Sharm El Sheikh, the City of Peace."
Mr Cooke went on to say that "by attracting the travel industry elite to Sharm El Sheikh for our awards, we aim to showcase not only its world-class attractions and facilities but how tourism is serving as a force for good and a catalyst for change."
Egypt holidays have been increasingly popular among UK holidaymakers for the past decade, thanks to year-round warm weather, low prices and a warm welcome – plus the incredible wonders of ancient Egypt such as the Pyramids. As a result, more and more carriers now offer cheap flights to Egypt from the UK.
