Emirates Scoops Conservation Award
Anyone wishing to go green on their Middle East holidays this year may wish to look for cheap flights with Emirates airlines, after the regional carrier received a special award for its commitment to protecting the environment.
The airline, which offers cheap flights to the Middle East, also operates a variety of cheap hotels and luxury accommodation at a number of holiday resorts throughout the region.
Emirates operates regular flights to Dubai from London Heathrow airport, plus a network of long-haul routes serving Sydney, Kuala Lumpur and the Seychelles.
This year, the airline's environmental commitment throughout its operations was honoured at the World Travel and Tourism Council's (WTTC) international summit in Beijing, where Emirates received the Conservation Award.
The award forms part of the council’s Tourism for Tomorrow awards programme and referred in particular to three of the airline’s resorts – Al Maha in Dubai, the Australian holidays resort in the Wolgan Valley and the forthcoming Cap Ternay complex, which will soon be open to people taking flights to the Seychelles.
Opodo News quoted WTTC president Jean-Claude Baumgarten who told participants that Emirates Hotels and Resorts was “a pioneer” when it came to sustainable development, protecting the local wildlife protection and conserving the local environment.
Emirates’ senior vice-president of destination and leisure management Hans Haensel commented: “Emirates has taken environmental commitments seriously and our resorts and their conservation work form a central focus of our corporate environmental policy. Across the whole organisation we are continuing to search for ways to improve environmental performance - on the ground and in the air.”
Emirates was in Abu Dhabi at the weekend on a recruitment drive for Arabic speaking cabin staff.
