Gatwick to Host First Direct Cheap Flights to Vietnam
UK holidaymakers who are in search of cheap flights to Vietnam will have more choice this winter when new direct services to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City begin operating out of London Gatwick Airport.
Beginning in early December, Vietnam Airlines will operate four cheap flights a week from Gatwick's North Terminal, with the ultimate intention of increasing services to a twice a day service. The carrier will be using a Boeing 777-200ER, capable of carrying up to 309 passengers, for its cheap flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which also has the option of business or upper economy cabins.
Gatwick Airport's chief executive Stewart Wingate commented: "These new long-haul routes are exciting news for Gatwick and for the 90,000 UK holidaymakers who travel to Vietnam each year who, this winter for the first time, will be able to fly direct to Vietnam."
"We're working hard to deliver a great service and a wider choice of destinations to passengers, as we compete to grow and become London's airport of choice. Today's announcement demonstrates our headway in fulfilling these ambitions." Mr Wingate also pointed out that Gatwick has given British businesses a golden opportunity "build and develop trading links in the South East Asian markets" by launching the first direct route to the two biggest cities in Vietnam.
Vietnam holidays are fast becoming one of the most popular destinations in Asia, with over five million visitors from overseas taking cheap flights to the country last year. Vietnam Airlines chief executive Pham Ngoc Minh said that these first direct routes from the UK represented a "breakthrough" in its plans to develop more routes in Europe.
