Heathrow to Open Childrens Play Area for Easter 2011

Heathrow to Open Childrens Play Area for Easter 2011 Heathrow Airport revealed plans this week to make a dedicated children's play area available at Terminal 5 this Easter.

The hub has joined forces with toy firm Bandai to create the pre-flight play area, which will feature a host of toys to play with – including Armouron, a bizarre suit of armour that apparently encourages role-playing. It will also see live entertainment, puppet shows, games and other group activities.

The play area will be operating during 8-10 April, the busy Easter weekend, in which parents taking cheap flights to the USA, the Caribbean and other long-haul destinations from Terminal 5 will be glad of the diversion. Easter weekend can be a stressful time for families taking holidays abroad, said Heathrow Airport's chief operating officer Nick Cullen, citing a recent survey commissioned by the hub, which discovered that almost a fifth of parents in the UK avoided taking cheap flights abroad due to the problems caused by travelling with fractious kids.

Respondents admitted that the hassle of children falling ill or becoming bored and bothering other travellers led them to turn away from foreign trips.

Mr Cullen said: "For many parents, travelling with children can be an experience fraught with anxiety – especially during the school holidays. This Easter we have created an area where children can enjoy themselves pre-flight and get rid of their energy, and in turn hopefully make the journey a little more manageable for parents."

There is also good news for shopaholics taking cheap flights from Heathrow. The travel hub has been voted the UK's best airport for shopping for a second year in a row, at the Skytrax World Airport Awards.
