Humberside Handled Most Amount of Package Holidays Last Year The top UK airports handling inclusive package holidays have been ranked in order, with Humberside topping the pile at 59 per cent, Manchester at 37 per cent, Doncaster Sheffield at 35 per cent and Gatwick at 29 per cent.


The poorest performers were Stansted at only 5 per cent, 7 per cent at Luton, 8 per cent at Liverpool and 11 per cent at Heathrow.


The conclusions came from the Civil Aviation Authority’s 2007 Air Passenger Survey, which was conducted with over 210,000 people departing from Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick,Luton, Doncaster Sheffield, Humberside, Manchester and Liverpool airports.


The study established that 36 per cent of travellers from Heathrow were business travellers in comparison to 24 per cent at Humberside, 21 per cent at Luton and 19 per cent at Stansted.


The airports with the largest proportion of leisure travellers was Doncaster Sheffield with 94 per cent, Liverpool with 89 per cent, Gatwick with 82 per cent, 81 per cent at Stansted and 64 per cent at Heathrow.


Over 56 per cent used one of the four London Airports surveyed. All retained the same percentage of UK passenger share that they had in 2006.


12 per cent of the total UK passengers travelled through the sampled regional airports selected.


Manchester covered nine per cent of the total UK passengers, whilst Liverpool accounted for just over two per cent. Both Humberside and Doncaster Sheffield reported for less than one per cent each.


46 per cent of Stansted travellers were visiting friends and relatives, while the figure for both Liverpool and Luton was 43 per cent and 32 per cent for travellers from Heathrow. Both Manchester and Doncaster Sheffield were 22 percent and only 10 per cent at Humberside Airport.


The highest number of non-UK residents using an airport was recorded at Heathrow, with 39 per cent at Stansted, 29 per cent at Liverpool, 16 per cent on flights from Manchester and just 4 per cent at Humberside.
