Monarch to Operate Cheap Flights to Barcelona from Gatwick
With Barcelona still one of Europe's most popular city break destinations, British travellers can rely on a wide selection of cheap flights to the Catalonian capital from UK airports.
Starting on 21 October, there will be even more choice, when budget carrier Monarch Airlines begins offering cheap flights to Barcelona from London Gatwick. From that date, Monarch will begin flying to the city once a day, with the intention of raising the frequency of the cheap flights to 11 times a week from the end of October.
The move will bring the total number of regular destinations served by Monarch from London Gatwick to 13, said the airline's managing director Kevin George.
Mr George went on to say that Barcelona holidays were very popular among Monarch's customer base, noting that the city "attracts a broad mix of visitors for business, city breaks and leisure for beach goers."
"All of these customers will appreciate the convenience and flexibility of up to 11 flights per week in addition to Monarch's fantastic value fares and innovative build your own class service," he added.
A month after the launch of the Gatwick-Barcelona route, Monarch will also begin offering cheap flights to Sharm el Sheikh earlier in the month. The cheap flights to Egypt will begin operating from both Gatwick and Manchester airports three times a week from 3 November, flying on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Mr George said that the Egypt route follows: "hot on the heels of our announcement last month to launch flights to the resort for summer 2012. This now means that from November 2011 we will have year-round scheduled flights to the Red Sea resort and further supports our shift to focusing on scheduled flying."
