New Summer Flights from London City Airport
Londoners will have more choice of cheap flights to sunshine hot spots across the Mediterranean, thanks to London City Airport's two major carriers, British Airways' BA Cityflyer and Cityjet.
The airlines will launch four new routes this summer. BA will hope to build on the success of its cheap flights to Majorca and Ibiza last summer by introducing new cheap flights to Malaga and Faro in the Portuguese Algarve this week.
The carrier has already extended its cheap flights to Nice in southern France and the Balearic Islands from July to September, but BA Cityflyer general commercial manager Luke Hayhoe said that the flights to Faro and Malaga will take place throughout the year.
"There has been a huge demand for sun routes from London City Airport which led us to increase the number of summer only leisure destinations we fly to," he added. "However, there is also demand for year-round holiday destinations and we chose Malaga and Faro because of their temperate climate and leisure activities on offer."
For its part, CityJet has launched two new routes offering cheap flights to France – aimed largely at people with holiday homes in Province and Cote d'Azur. CityJet chief executive Christine Ourmières said: "Our customer profile includes many second home owners and those looking for a short break at an exclusive destination."
The cheap flights to Avignon and Toulon started last weekend and will operate every weekend until the end of September this year.
"In addition, the new routes will give the French regions direct access to the very heart of London due to City Airport's desirable central location."
