New Superjumbo Set for Take-Off at Manchester
Middle Eastern carrier Emirates will showcase its new A380 superjumbo at Manchester Airport at the start of next month to launch its new cheap flights to Dubai from the north-western hub.
The new daily service will begin on 1 September. Hordes of aviation enthusiasts and spectators are expected to descend on the airport to witness the massive new aircraft's maiden flight from Manchester.
Opodo has reported that to cope with the influx of sightseers, Manchester Airport will be opening its Runway Visitor Park at 8am, for what its managing director Andrew Cornish compared to the final Concorde flight to Manchester. Mr Cornish called the event on 1 September a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity.
"We're looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to the airport to be a part of this historic event, especially in the school holidays and with the park being voted one of the top tourist attractions for the north-west," he declared. "There will be plenty of opportunities to come see the A380 as from 1 September onward it will be operating a daily service into Manchester, but this is a really significant day for aviation here in the north-west and we aim to celebrate it appropriately."
As well as its new cheap flights to Dubai from Manchester, Emirates also uses the A380 superjumbo for its London Heathrow-Dubai service. Dubai holidays remain popular among UK holidaymakers wishing to enjoy its hot climate, sandy beaches and spectacular feats of engineering and construction.
Concorde made its final flight to Manchester Airport in 2003. The supersonic passenger jet is now on permanent display at the hub's Runway Visitor Park.
