Ryanair Improve Norway Cheap Flights
Ryanair, the world’s self-proclaimed “favourite airline”, have announced a host of new cheap flights going to and from Oslo as Scandinavian tourism shows a marked increase across Europe.
“The demand for low cost fares to Scandinavian destinations has grown significantly with the high fares and capacity reductions of BA and SAS,” commented Ryanair’s spokesperson Laura McCormack.
The new flights will begin service from October 2009, with seven new routes connecting Oslo’s Rygge Airport to top European holiday destinations, and four routes flying between the Continent and Torp Airport. Ryanair claims to offer the largest selection of choice, as well as the cheapest fares for flights to the top 10 Scandinavian airports.
Ryanair will carry passengers on cheap flights to Alicante, Barcelona and Madrid in Spain, along with flights to Milan, Brussels, London and Bremen in the rest of Europe. The airline expects to carry half a million passengers to and from Oslo, as well as sustaining 500 jobs around the Rygge Airport.
Speaking from Norway, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary said: “Ryanair is delighted to open seven new routes to/from Oslo (Rygge) Airport in October which will allow us to bring more low fares, more competition and choice to even more Norwegian consumers/visitors.”
Never one to miss an opportunity to take a pop at his competitors, Mr O’Leary slammed SAS’s high fares, highlighting the fact that their air traffic had dropped by 16 per cent last month, whilst Ryanair passenger numbers had grown by 13 per cent. With the new routes in place this autumn, Ryanair will run 27 routes in total to Oslo.
