Ryanair Issues Warning on Travel Insurance

Ryanair Issues Warning on Travel Insurance Cheap flights carrier Ryanair warned recently of the risks of taking overseas holidays with inadequate or non-existent travel insurance.

The airline said that its survey of some 4,000 passengers on its cheap flights to Europe had revealed that more than a third were risking “huge medical bills” if they suffered an accident or illness while abroad due to a lack of insurance.

Although 46 per cent of respondents said that they possessed annual or multi-trip insurance, while another 19 per cent had single-trip cover, a massive 82 per cent were unaware whether their travel insurance policy offered cover for skiing, business travel or sports such as golf – always a popular choice of activity for people taking cheap flights to Portugal, for instance. Most worryingly of all, Ryanair said, an overwhelming 90 per cent of travellers who did not have any form of insurance did not know that they could end up paying over €18,000 for medical repatriation flights if they became seriously ill while on a break.

The cheap fares carrier's head of communications Stephen McNamara commented: “Ryanair delivers Europe’s lowest fares which is why over 75 million passengers will travel with Ryanair this year. However, we advise all passengers to use a little of what they saved on our low fares to purchase a Ryanair travel insurance product that best suits their needs and could save them over €18,000 if the become seriously ill abroad.”

Mr McNamara added that customers who purchase adequate insurance can then “travel safe in the knowledge their holiday, their possessions and their health is covered”.

Ryanair urged all travellers to “protect their holiday, possessions and health” with one of the excellent value travel insurance policies available from them.
