Ryanair Opening 45th UK Base in Manchester
Cheap flights carrier Ryanair announced plans this week to open its 45th UK air base in Manchester, at the start of October.
The budget airline said that it will start off with two aircraft based at the hub, offering cheap flights to 17 destinations across Europe. Ultimately, it plans to expand the fleet to four aircraft, offering cheap flights on 26 routes by the summer of next year. Tickets for all 26 routes are now on sale.
Manchester Airport is fast becoming a premier base for cheap flights carriers such as easyJet and Jet2.com, and Ryanair has hopes to share in the success.
Its 26 routes will include cheap flights to sunshine hotspots such as Alicante, Biarritz, Faro, Ibiza, Malaga, Murcia, Palma and Tenerife. Not to mention popular city break destinations such as Barcelona, Bremen, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Oslo, Paris and Rome.
Outspoken Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary said that he expected the new base to help some two million passengers throughout the north-west take up to 260 cheap flights a week as part of the airline's $280 million-plus investment, which he claimed will "sustain" around 2,000 jobs at the airport and the surrounding region.
Unable to resist another dig at his competitors, Mr O'Leary added: "Now Manchester consumers/visitors can beat the recession and escape easyJet’s and Jet2's high fares by switching to Ryanair's lowest fares and our no fuel surcharge guarantee to 26 exciting destinations in Italy, Germany and Spain among others."
To celebrate the opening of the new UK base, Ryanair made a million seats available for the cheapest fares possible, which can be booked until midnight tonight.
