Sao Paulo Recommended as Top Brazilian Destination

Sao Paulo Recommended as Top Brazilian Destination UK travellers taking cheap flights to Brazil this year should take the time to sample the unique delights of Sao Paulo, according to Lonely Planet spokeswoman Heather Carswell.

Ms Carswell said that lively nightlife and the delicious food and drink served in "fantastic restaurants" were part and parcel of Sao Paulo holidays, as well as a diverse and vibrant arts and culture scene. Although Rio de Janeiro is the first city most people think of in relation to Brazil holidays – thanks to the city's Carnival reputation, the gorgeous beaches and the picturesque cityscapes – she said that Sao Paulo had just as much to offer as its more famous counterpart.

"It is a sprawling city of 11 million people and is not as easy on the eye as Rio, so that its attractions can go overlooked," Ms Carswell admitted. "The main sites of interest are its cultural centres, markets, churches and museums, as well as Banespa - Brazil's version of the Empire State Building – which has fantastic views of the city."

There are many cheap flights to Sao Paulo available from the UK, including routes served by carriers such as KLM, Air France, American Airlines and British Airways, which added a direct service from Heathrow Airport in March. In fact, there was an 82 per cent increase in Brazil flights from Heathrow in May, thanks to the new direct BA route.

As always, when searching for Brazil flights, check online for the cheapest fares and bargains such as cheap hotels and other special offers.
