Sophia Loren to name MSC ship Fantasia

Sophia Loren to name MSC ship Fantasia Luxury cruise ship company MSC Cruises is preparing its largest ship ever for her official naming ceremony in style at the Italian port of Naples this evening.

The new cruise liner is to be crowned Fantasia. Somewhat aptly, sex symbol Sophia Loren, one of Italy’s best loved actresses will conduct the ceremony.

The Hollywood actress was a popular object of men’s desires in the 50s and 60s.

The monster cruise ship is an engineering marvel and luxurious floating hotel. The vessel is taller than Pisa’s Leaning Tower and longer than the Eiffel Tower of Paris. Toyota’s Formula One racing supremo Jarno Trulli will also be present at the launch to open an on board racing simulator.

MSC Fantasia is the height of sophistication and elegance in the cruising world. The ship boasts five restaurants, four swimming pools coffee bars, shops and an interactive 4D cinema.

The ship will also be the first in the MSC fleet to offer exclusive VIP treatment with butlers on hand to attend passengers’ every need.

According to the MSC website, “guests will walk on a Swarovski crystal floor. A transparent ceiling also permits the guests to experience all the magic of sailing as they gaze at the starlit skies.”

The 4,000 passenger ship will take its maiden Mediterranean voyage next week. Passengers will be able to take cheap flights to Naples in order to catch the 12 day cruise.

In other cruise news, Crystal Cruises have decided to drop their fuel surcharges for cruises in 2009. The new policy will come into effect from 1 January 2009. The New Year will get off to a great start for cruisers with cheaper holiday prices.

Crystal Cruises’ president, Gregg Michel said “The decreased price of crude oil is significant enough to warrant the elimination of the fuel surcharge at the present time.” All passengers will benefit from the surcharge reduction even if they have already paid for their holiday in full.

Passengers who have made a deposit or paid for their holiday outright will have prices adjusted accordingly and receive onboard credit to use on the ship’s many shops and facilities.
