World Cup Boosts Interest in South Africa Holidays

World Cup Boosts Interest in South Africa Holidays Market analysts Euromonitor International said today that the World Cup has sparked a surge of interest in South Africa holidays throughout the year.

Writing for TravelMole, the organisation’s travel and tourism analyst Nadejda Popova said that interest in the entire sub-Saharan region would increase to “unprecedented levels” throughout the year, with an impact way beyond the dates of the sporting tournament itself.

Euromonitor International believes that there will be a rise in the number of tourists taking flights to South Africa of up to 15 per cent. This would mean that the number of visitors to the country could reach 11.5 million by the end of the year – and 32.9 million for the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.

Ms Popova said that, with less than 100 days to go until the first match of the World Cup, the promotional machine was gearing up to top speed, increasing the profile of South Africa and its image as a fascinating holiday destination. With a keen eye on developments, other countries in the region, like Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Namibia are also likely to launch new marketing drives to promote tourism and travel, she added.

Although flights to South Africa for the duration of the World Cup have almost entirely sold out, there are still some great bargains to be had later in the year, and many good package deals on safari holidays in the region.

Potential visitors to the region should check online for the best offers. One carrier that will be busily promoting its flights to South Africa is Virgin, which was recently named as the official carrier for the England World Cup squad.
